Stuart hails special Fogarty before debut

Coach Ricky Stuart has heaped lavish praise on recruit Jamal Fogarty ahead of his Canberra debut. (AAP)

Canberra coach Ricky Stuart says he's super proud of recruit Jamal Fogarty ahead of his Raiders debut on Sunday afternoon.

Fogarty, whose signing and injection into the side could shape the Raiders' season, will start against Parramatta after completing his recovery from a knee injury almost a month earlier than expected.

Stuart was not surprised by the 28-year-old's fast turnaround.

"Jamal is a special character, he's bubbly and upbeat, he loves his football and he's been involved in every team meeting, every session during his rehab," he told reporters.

"Jamal's been preparing from the first day of his rehabilitation, prepared like a committed professional.

"We're very proud to have him as Raider No.384."

The Raiders hope the former Gold Coast Titan will unlock five-eighth Jack Wighton's full potential, with the 2020 Dally M-winner allowed to focus on his galloping runs rather than steering the side around the field.

Meanwhile, Seb Kris is expected to start at centre after captain Jarrod Croker's unfortunate shoulder injury during the week.

It's believed Croker's shoulder popped out while reaching for a TV remote, just weeks after he hurt the same shoulder saving a try against Canterbury.

"It's been tough on everybody," Stuart said.

"He's had an awful 18 months ... what he's gone through mentally to get back shows what type of character he is.

"I was devastated to hear the news the other night"
