Under-fire Steven Gerrard shirked the question when asked if he could turn things around at Aston Villa, less than an hour before bluntly receiving the sack following another damning defeat.
The Villans were slapped 3-0 away to Fulham on Thursday, leaving Gerrard's side languishing above the relegation zone on goal difference after taking a mere nine points from 11 games.
Fans vented their frustration with chants of "Steven Gerrard, get out of our club" and "You'll never work again" during the match, which Villa ended with 10 men after Douglas Luiz's sending off.
A penalty from Fulham talisman Aleksandar Mitrovic was sandwiched by Harrison Reed's first-half strike and a Tyrone Mings own goal, plunging Gerrard under more pressure.
And although he vowed not to give up despite supporters turning on him, it wasn't long before the axe fell.
"It's tough but I'm a man, I accept it," the Villa manager, who succeeded Dean Smith last November, told Prime Video post-match. "I understand it, I can feel their frustration, I'm frustrated with them [too]. It was a tough night for me, personally."
Asked whether he was capable of changing his club's fortunes for the better, Gerrard admitted: "Look, we'll see what happens. I understand the situation that we're in. I'm a fighter, I'll never, ever quit anything, certainly when it comes down to football or anything in life. So, we'll see what happens moving forward."
The 42-year-old, who boldly quit his first senior managerial role at Rangers to take the Villa job, added: "That [performance] was a long way short. If you look at how we performed at the weekend, I wanted to same but we were lucky to still be in the game at half time. Our 'keeper kept us in it. The performance was nowhere near good enough. The first half shocked me after what we saw at the weekend. We just didn't turn up tonight."

Meanwhile, in his press conference at Craven Cottage, Gerrard confessed: "I'm hurting, just like the fans are. We'll see what happens. You know and I know that I'm in a very difficult position right now."
Villa captain John McGinn echoed his manager's verdict, with their side having won just two Premier League games all season. "We're disappointed. That doesn't represent us as players and it's embarrassing to be involved in. We've let the supporters down, let the manager down and let ourselves down," McGinn declared, also speaking to Prime Video.
"This is part of football and part of representing a big club. We need to start performing, there's far too man of us no doing well enough at the moment. We do have the ability to that but we're no hitting those levels and that's the disappointing thing. We understand the fan's anger but we need to try and ignore that. We apologise to them and we just need to get ready for Sunday now."
