Strong WSL driving winning England mentality ahead of home Euros, says Chelsea star Millie Bright

Chelsea defender Millie Bright believes the strength of the Women’s Super League (WSL) has instilled a winning mentality in England ahead of this summer’s home European Championship.

The WSL has gone from strength to strength in recent seasons, with increased investment, such as Barclays coming on board as a title sponsor, boosting teams’ finances.

This season’s title was decided on the final day, while the race for Champions League qualification also went down to the wire.

Chelsea showed their winning mentality to secure an FA Cup and WSL double, but Bright believes such a trait is now present throughout the whole England squad.

“I think that is something that every player brings to be honest,” she said. “With the levels of the WSL and how competitive that is, and how difficult that has been this year, everyone has had to build that mentality in some way.

“But that is definitely something I think as English players we always want to do. We are always fierce, we want to get the job done and give our absolute heart and soul to the game. I don’t see that changing to be honest.

“The talent that this group has is incredible. The pool of players that can be picked from is ridiculous. There are some special players in our group and unbelievable people. It is really raising the levels of our team.

“The intensity of training on day two has probably been higher than I expected, to be honest, after the break. It’s really refreshing to be here and know that we are in together until the tournament.”
