‘Strong indications’ Iran had role in RAF Fairford plot – Burnham

  • Andy Burnham has stated there are "strong indications" that Iran was involved in a suspected terror plot near the RAF Fairford military base in Gloucestershire , where five British nationals were arrested over the weekend.
  • The five suspects, aged between 23 and 25, were detained on suspicion of terrorism and explosives offences after petrol was discovered in vans near the airbase, though no explosive devices were found.
  • All five suspects have since been released on bail under strict conditions, a decision that prompted criticism from Donald Trump , who expressed surprise at their release.
  • The prime minister insisted that British authorities have the situation under "the strongest grip" and are working closely with US counterparts, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also noting foreign involvement.
  • Iran 's embassy in London has fiercely denied any connection to the events, while UK counter-terrorism police continue an ongoing investigation into the matter.
