LUCKNOW: People visiting banks for various works were disappointed at several places due to the nationwide strike of All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA) on Tuesday.
Except State Bank of India and Bank of Baroda, employees of all other public sector banks abstained from work on the second and last day of the strike.
However, most ATMs kept working as the cash was deposited in advance. Many consumers who came to the banks for availing cheque and loan clearance, issuance of draft, NEFT, debit card issues and manual cash transactions were disappointed. Besides, there were delays in cheque clearances and government treasury operations.
UP secretary, AIBEA, Rajneesh Gupta said, “Transactions worth Rs 1,500 crore were affected in the state due to the strike. Government should understand that privatising the banking sector would not only affect employees but also the poor of the country.”
