Sharply criticising a Kerala High Court order on Monday that declared work boycott by government employees as part of a 48-hour nationwide general strike illegal, Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] district secretary M.V. Jayarajan said on Tuesday that striking work was the fundamental right of employees.
He told the media that the right of the workers to abstain from work was not gained through the magnanimity of the judiciary. The order of the court against the strike deserved strong condemnation, he said, adding that the court’s response reflected a hangover from the British period.
He asked why the judiciary was silent on the rise in prices of petroleum products. The court should intervene in issues concerning the masses, he added.
