Strictly start date 2022 and when this year's pairings will be announced

Strictly Come Dancing season is almost upon us. This year's BBC One series is kicking off a little later than planned after the broadcaster adjusted its schedule to air special coverage of the Queen following her death on Thursday, September 8.

The show's original launch date fell within the period of official National Mourning. In line with government guidance, there was no obligation to cancel or postpone events and sporting fixtures, or close entertainment venues during the National Mourning period, but it was suggested as a mark of respect at the discretion of individual organisations.

It means the Strictly Come Dancing launch show will now air on Friday, September 23, followed by the first live show on Saturday, September 24. This year will see Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Head Judge Shirley Ballas return to the panel, while Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly will make a comeback to host.
