Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole revealed he spent weeks living in a tent with his wife and children in Spain while their house was being renovated.
The former BBC professional dancer left the show in 2018 following rumours of a feud between himself and head judge Shirley Ballas. Since then, Brendan has focussed on his family life and recalled the weeks that he lived with his wife and two children in a tent during their recent renovation project.
Brendan, 47, met his wife Zoe in 2008 when they both attended a birthday party for mutual friend Rick Parfitt Jnr. The couple tied the knot two years later, before welcoming their first child Aurelia in 2012 and son Dante in 2018.
Speaking about their embrace of a nomadic lifestyle, Brendan told The Sun: "We are doing a very nice refurbishment on our place in Mallorca.
"I've bought many houses over the years and I have always had the intention to refurbish them but have never gotten around to it and I have sold them and finally, we're doing a proper refurb on our house in Mallorca.
"Because we're doing the renovation we actually can't live in the house so the plan is to actually be in a glamping tent on the property which is quite nice although if it gets too hot, which I fear it might be, we may well just come back."
He added: “We have stayed in it from time to time with the kids and, we had a moment of gin madness probably three or four months ago now when, over a couple of trips to Mallorca, we took this massive bell tent over with us."
Brendan continued: "Funnily enough, a couple of months ago we were going to rent a small flat and when we arrived at the hotel the day before we were getting the flat, we got a phone call saying it had been rented to somebody else for a longer time.
"So we had to get the bell tent out early and we put it up!
“We stayed in it for several weeks with the kids and it was a really lovely adventurous sort of thing to do. This was in April so we had a log burner going and we were sleeping in the same space. And we really did miss them when we came back.
He added: “Now we are going back in a couple of weeks. But if it is too hot then we might come back…. But we have got a barbecue right outside the tent so we can cook and we have set up a solar shower."
The New Zealand born dancer departed Strictly in 2018 and revealed that the decision came from BBC bosses who didn't want to renew his contract. He told ITV's Lorraine: "It’s quite, actually, hard to talk about.
“The BBC haven’t renewed my contract. We get contracted year upon year. They’ve made an editorial decision to not have me back on the show. I’m a little bit in shock. I’m quite emotional, a bit raw about it.
“It’s done via a process of a phone call and stuff. I have had 15 incredible series on the show. I’m very proud of the whole show. It’s a great team.”
