Adam Peaty’s girlfriend Eiri Munro has addressed the pair’s split after the swimmer admitted to “letting her down”.
Strictly Come Dancing star Adam, 27, announced his separation from Eiri, with whom he shares a son, in an Instagram post, as he explained that he wants a “happy” and “healthy” relationship for their boy.
The three-time Olympic gold swimmer also apologised to Eiri, 24, and their son for “letting them down”.
Eiri has now spoken out about the split, writing on Instagram Stories: “The last three years have been so, so, amazing. Our little family have experienced so much laughter, love, and joy.
“You guys have been such a significant part of that. This next chapter of my life is surely going to be a difficult one.
"I would appreciate that people would refrain from commenting, speculating, or messaging.
"I have shared so much of my life, but for now, I am choosing privacy and I hope that you will all respect that.”
Eiri continued: "I appreciate you all so much and I’m so thankful for all the fun and opportunities you have given me.
"I am going to be taking a break from social media, so goodbye for now. Thank you so much for everything."
Adam and Eiri met through dating app Tinder when he was at Loughborough University and went public with their relationship on Instagram at the beginning of 2020.
The pair revealed they were expecting their first child three months later.
Adam competed in the 2021 series of Strictly with professional dancer Katya Jones and reached week seven, finishing in ninth place.
The Olympic swimmer recently returned from a holiday on the Greek island of Santorini with his son George and posted several snaps from the trip.
Adam shared a photo of Eiri and their boy on Instagram as he announced their split, writing: "Eiri and I have decided to go our separate ways.
"We have enjoyed a wonderful three years together, 2 of those with our gorgeous son George.
"Our priority has always been to provide the happiest and healthiest home environment for him, and right now that means ending our romantic relationship.”
Adam went on to praise Eiri as he said he “could not ask for a greater mother for George” and told them that he is “sorry for letting you down”.
