Strictly’s Oti Mabuse to host new game show pilot after dating show disaster

Former Strictly Come Dancing judge Oti Mabuse will host a new gameshow after her stint as host of ITV dating show, Romeo & Duet, came to an end when the series was axed after one series. You can read more about that here.

The presenter and dancer, 32, will front new gameshow The Tower and bosses are already looking for contestants. The new show will be produced by Spark Media and film in Media City in Manchester on Friday, October 7.

A teaser for The Tower reads: "Set in a unique world, your general knowledge, strategic thinking and judgement will be tested to the max in this exciting new game. Teams of friends, family, colleagues or partners battle to win a cash prize!"

Romeo & Duet's axing came when it failed to strike a cord with viewers and critics alike. The series saw contestants sing one song to entice a fellow singleton. The newly-formed couple would then head off on a duet-date to learn a duet, before returning later in the show to perform that number in the ultimate romantic love battle; a singing competition against the other couples to be crowned the winners. The crowd’s chosen couple then got whisked off for another date to see if their love blossoms.

After the former Saturday tea-time show failed to draw in big audience figures, Oti now appears as a panelist on ITV's The Masked Dancer and Dancing On Ice. Prior to that, she was a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing between 2015-2021.

Previous episodes of Romeo & Duet are now available to watch on ITV Hub. You can get more celebrity news and other story updates straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletters here.
