Strictly's Molly Rainford 'held back tears' after tough night on BBC show

Strictly Come Dancing star Molly Rainford has said she was "holding back some tears" following a tough night on the BBC One competition that saw her and professional dancer Carlos Gu in the bottom two. Molly and Carlos found themselves in the dreaded Strictly dance-off alongside Jayde Adams and Karen Hauer but were ultimately saved by judges Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke, and Craig Revel Horwood.

The pair had performed a street dance to the Grange Hill theme tune as part of the BBC's centenary celebrations. Reflecting on the live show and results on Strictly's spin-off It Takes Two Molly revealed she struggled to hold back tears.

Speaking to presenter Rylan Clark, Molly said: "I think after watching Tyler and Dianne's couples choice and they did a similar style, the judges were kind of into it so we thought: 'Okay, maybe there's a good chance of them enjoying our one.'

"But I completely get what they were saying. I guess with the theme tune and everything it wasn't quite as exciting as most of our dances have been because there wasn't a lot of places to take it. So it was more down to us to take it somewhere else." Carlos added: "I had so much fun with it and I feel like we delivered the fun to the public and the judges but of course there's always space to do it better."

"It did get the red light treatment and you were in the dance-off – the first time for the pair of you as well," Rylan pointed out. "What went through your mind?"

Molly responded: "That was tough. I definitely had to hold back some tears because I'm having so much fun and this can't be my last dance you know? Especially because I felt like: 'I hope I haven't let Carlos down because I'm having such a good time and he's been such an amazing partner' and I didn't want it to end there. It was a tough night."

Carlos added: "It was emotional but we just cleared our minds but we did take the judges' comments into the dance-off and I feel like the dance-off was better than on Saturday night." For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
