Strictly's Molly Rainford 'crying for help' after multiple dance-offs, says body language expert

Molly Rainford seemed to be 'crying for help' as she appeared on Strictly: It Takes Two last night.

Body language expert Judi James has revealed the clear signs that Molly has been struggling after finding out she was in the dance-off again on Strictly Come Dancing this week.

Molly and her professional partner Carlos Gu were in the bottom two alongside Kym Marsh and Graziano di Prima, but it was the Coronation Street star who ended up going home.

However, Judi says there are clear signs Molly is "bluffing" her confidence - but insists there are also signs they could turn it around.

Speaking exclusively with The Mirror, Judi explained: "Molly and Carlos’s body language signals on It Takes Two were a non-verbal cry for help from the viewers.

"There were still moments when Molly managed to mask all her signs of disappointment and perform her bubbly, excited, stage-school sweetheart persona but it looked mainly like bluffing.

"Their signals were incongruent and both she and Carlos had many more moments when their true feelings showed through. Both performed overkill smiles that were also lightning smiles that vanished quickly and which never really hit their eye expression."

Judi feels Molly is still "emotionally bruised" after a tough few weeks on the BBC One show.

She added: "Molly’s face when she turned to listen to Carlos was completely different. Her eyes looked sad and serious and her mouth closed and dipped at the corners with the bottom lip stuck out like a child about to cry. Carlos’s mouth was also pulled down at the corners and it seemed to take a lot of muscle effort to hike it into a smile.

"When Molly said ‘I loved it’ about her dance last weekend her body language looked incongruent. Her face dropped and her hands clasped in an anxiety ritual, plus she let out a small but loud denial laugh after she spoke. Molly rubbed her knees constantly during the interview in a self-comfort ritual, as though she was still feeling emotionally bruised."

However, Judi is sure Molly could turn it around with both her and Carlos exuding some clear "fighter" signals too.

"However there was also one telling moment that hinted at how the couple might actually turn it around and make it to the semi-finals. Their second dance on the live show is to ‘I’m a Survivor’ which of course should be their theme tune," she added.

"It was when this was played that we suddenly saw Carlos come alive and a lot of pent-up anger seemed to emerge in his defiant body language signals.

"An audience can flip on sixpence in terms of voting preferences and if they do decide poor Molly and Carlos have taken enough punishment and if the young couple really do come back fighting and convert it into a truly passionate, angry and electric routine they could manage to trigger and emotional response that finally gets the public to back them."

  • Strictly's semi-final, will be broadcast live on BBC One on Sunday 11 December at 7.15pm.
