Strictly's Molly Rainford apologises to pro partner Carlos Gu after result upset

Molly Rainford has issued an apology to Strictly Come Dancing pro partner Carlos Gu for 'letting him down,' after a shock result saw the couple plunged into the dance-off for the first time at the weekend.

Prior to Saturday night's BBC 100th Birthday special, CBBC star Molly, famous for playing Nova Jones, had been one of the new series' most consistent high scorers, having received great marks for the Strictly judges from the get-go. Her and Carlos' week routine saw the couple perform a Couple's Choice to the theme tune from Grange Hill.

Dressed as school kids in the Grange Hill uniform, Molly and Carlos went through their steps in a set mocked up to look like a school canteen, however, while it looked like they were having lots of fun in the bathroom, the judges weren't brimming over with enthusiasm with their reactions.

While Molly and Carlos still got a decent 30 out 40 for the dance, that put them in the dangerous position of being middle of the leaderboard and after Fleur East and Kym Marsh fell into the dance-off within a week of each other, after too getting good scores, it was Molly who was the victim of this week's shock result.

She had to compete against Jayde Adams to stay in the competition and, while all four judges were unanimous in wanting save her and Carlos, Molly was quick to apologise to Carlos after the Strictly results aired on BBC One. Posting a video of their performance on Instagram, Molly wrote: "I can’t tell you how grateful I am to still be here. That was not a good feeling but I think the comments were fair and I definitely have a lot of work to do."

Moving on to her apology to Carlos, Molly wrote: "I’m so sorry to have let you down @gkx_carlos You are the most amazing partner and you have really been my rock this weekend. I promise to come back fighting next week, I’m having the time of my life and I’m not ready for it to be over just yet." Molly ended the post by thanking fans, writing: "Thank you so much to everyone who did vote and support, we appreciate you so much."

She and Carlos will be hoping to avoid the dreaded dance-off this coming Saturday when they return to the ballroom for Strictly's highly anticipated Halloween Week.
