Former Strictly Come Dancing star Kym Marsh has seemingly given her followers some indication that Waterloo Road will be returning for a second series. The actress, 46, plays dinner lady Nicky Walters in the revived series, which also saw Angela Griffin make a comeback as headmistress Kim Campbell.
Sharing a photo from her dressing room to her Instagram Stories, Kym wrote: “Work time!!! #waterlooroad." Filming has wrapped on the first series, so the post suggests a second series could be on the cards. The BBC has yet to confirm whether Waterloo Road has been officially recommissioned.
The new series of Waterloo Road premiered in early January. The show, which is a continuation of its 2006-2015 predecessor, follows the twists and turns of the students and teachers who attend the school. Former pupils of the original run, Donte and Chlo Charles (played by Adam Thomas and Katie Griffiths), returned for the revival.

Kym has previously said that she relates to her Waterloo Road character as she too is a single parent. The former Hear’Say singer explained: “I was a single parent for many years when David and Emilie were little. I didn’t have anybody. I struggled to make ends meet. I begged and borrowed from family and friends to help me. Yes, there are elements of Nicky that I get and understand as I’ve been there too.”
Despite Waterloo Road’s return seemingly confirmed, the revival received mixed reviews from critics. The Guardian gave the series, two stars and called it a “lesson in how not to revive a show”.
While critics have had a negative response to the new episodes, viewers seem to have been enjoying the Waterloo Road revival. "We need series two commissioned now! 20 episodes please split in term times as last time too," wrote one person on social media and a second agreed, desperate for more episodes: "Literally binged the whole Waterloo Road series in two days… Is this really what life has come to?… I’m actually in desperate need of the next series ASAP!"
