Katya Jones was left pleading for 'another chance' after her Strictly Come Dancing performance with Tony Adams went wrong on Saturday night.
Former Arsenal captain and England defender Tony is one of the most familiar stars in the Strictly line-up this year, although he hasn't been fancied to do well, with bookies having him among the outsiders to triumph along with Loose Women anchor Kaye Adam. Sadly for Tony, he did little to improve his odds on Saturday night when he and Katya, who won Strictly in 2017 with actor Joe McFadden, took to the dancefloor for a routine to Village People classic Go West.
In the VT that preceded their performance, Tony explained that the chorus of the guilty pleasure anthem had inspired a 'one nil to the Arsenal' chant from the London club's supporters and the closing moments of his and Katya's dance featured that very chant as footballs fell down onto the ballroom below.
Unfortunately, while it was certainly entertaining, Tony and Katya's performance was far from technically great and had a few too many errors for the judges' liking. As Tony, dressed in a Arsenal strip-inspired outfit and pro partner Katya took their places in front of the panel, Anton Du Beke put the boot in, quipping: "The thing is when you come out and dance, we don't really know what the routine is and, as it turns out, neither do you!"
Tony took the put down well as he made a 'punchline' gesture at Anton, before a dejected Katya grabbed hold of the football legend and pleaded: "Can we have another go please?" Anton replied: "That's the unfortunate thing about this show, you only get one go," before conceding that there "was so much to like," in the dance.
Tony looked crestfallen as he and Katya joined Claudia Winkleman with him saying he hoped he hadn't let his pro partner down as Claudia told him: "We won't have any of that here!"
