Strictly's Kai 'devastated' over dance-off against girlfriend Nadiya, expert says

Strictly Come Dancing viewers witnessed the first elimination of the series this weekend.

Loose Women's Kaye Adams performed her last dance and became the first celebrity eliminated along with her professional dance partner Kai Widdrington.

On Sunday evening, the duo had to come face-to-face with Matt Goss and his partner Nadiya Bychkova.

After both couples had danced a second time, judges Craig Revel Horwood, Anton du Beke and Motsi Mabuse chose to save Matt and Nadiya, leaving Kaye to wave goodbye to the BBC show.

According to body language Judi James, Kai was 'quietly devastated' by the elimination.

Judi told Mirror : "There was an air of resignation and defeat about Kaye’s body language to the point where her routine fell apart as she seemed to accept the fact that she would be the first to go.

"Kaye will be badly missed by the other celebs. Watching her in the background on the balcony on other shows she has been looking like the rock of comfort that more nervous dancers have been clinging to like limpets.

"She also turned out to be a much better dancer than expected but her self-belief seemed to lead to a self-inflicted dive for the exit tonight as she lost her way in the dance-off."

Judi added that Kai put on a 'mask' when comforting Kaye about the judge's decisions.

"Kai applied a mask of pure charm and generosity as he told Kaye ‘That’s alright’ as their names were called but his subtler body language gestures suggested he was quietly devastated," she said.

"Being in the dance-off is bad enough but he was also competing with his real-life partner Nadiya, which looked like a wretched experience for both of them."

Judi said: "Kai’s metronomic thumb tap on Kaye’s arm suggested tension building as they waited to be chosen and as he applied a smile of bravado his squeezed eye expression and his bared teeth formed a very fake-looking, overkill smile that failed to convince."

According to the body language expert, Nadiya's facial expression became 'lifeless' when she realised the dance-off would be against her boyfriend.

There was a moment of 'loving consolation' when the duo hugged after the performances.

Judi concluded: "There was a glimpse of the couple kissing tenderly in the crush at the end as they finished the dance-off they had probably been dreading."

Speaking about Kaye and Kai's performance, Motsi said they were 'on the same level' as the other two but Matt and Nadiya was a 'little better'.

When asked by Tess about their time on the show, Kaye said: “It was the right result and I did make mistakes, and when it comes to that high pressured situation that’s what happen, so I am delighted for Matt and Nadiya.”

Turning to partner Kai, she continued: “The only person I am just sorry for is this wonderful man, who has just been so brilliant.

“It was a hell of a lot of fun, I said my ambition was to learn to love to dance and actually I have seen a whole new side to myself, it’s opened a little door.

“It’s been a wonderful experience and to spend time with such talented people who love the show so much has been a joy!”
