Strictly's John Whaite reveals terrifying ordeal after dog was rushed to the vets

Strictly star and Great British Bake Off winner John Whaite has revealed he's had a terrible Friday, with both a baking disaster and an unexpected trip to the vets.

The TV chef, who took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2021, told followers about his unfortunate day as he shared a fed-up-looking expression on his Instagram stories.

John, who was the winner of the Great British Bake Off in 2012, told his 302,000 followers about his unlucky day with a snap of both his baking disaster and his pet dog Abel who needed to be rushed to the vet.

The star captioned the snap: "Today Abel ate a latex glove and so the vet had to make him sick.

He continued: "And now I've just dropped 40 brownies for Mum's silver wedding anniversary tomorrow.

"F*$K you, Friday."

The snap showed the foodie mess on the floor alongside John cuddling pet pooch Abel, who looked sorry for himself after his impromptu trip to the vet.

John, who was the first ever same-sex male couple on Strictly with professional dancer Johannes Radebe, opened up about his experience on the dancing show which saw him narrowly miss out on lifting the glitterball trophy.

Detailing the gruelling training schedule and hard work to be ready each week to perform, John also opened up about one particularly emotional breakdown on the BBC show.

Feeling overwhelmed and tearful, John revealed that his dance partner Johannes being nice was the final trigger that saw him break down in tears.

During an appearance on Channel 4's Steph’s Packed Lunch on Tuesday, John explained: "He was being too nice. I said ‘Johannes, I’m just not getting it so please can you talk me through the steps, be horrible to me and I’ll get it.'

"He was like 'No darling, I don’t do that', I started crying…"

Adding how the gruelling training is tough, John added: "Sometimes the days are stressful and we have to take a few more breaks. Last week when we were learning the steps, I was getting really stressed… I glaze over.

"I reach mental saturation and he has to either feed me Haribo or send me home and I think it’s easier just to put me in cab and send me home."

John and Johannes took second position in the 2021 series, with EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice winning instead.
