Strictly's Hamza Yassin stages unexpected 'rescue' as he remains favourite to win

Hamza Yassin rushed in to stage an unexpected 'rescue' ahead of filming for Strictly Coming Dancing sister show It Takes Two earlier this week, coming to the aid of a stricken bird.

Wildlife cameraman and CBBC star Hamza has been a revelation on Strictly this year alongside professional dance partner Jowita Pryzstal, with the couple finishing joint top of the leaderboard on week one, before not straying too far from it ever since, thanks to some amazing routines including their amazing salsa and groundbreaking Couple's Choice, which moved judge Motsi Mabuse to tears.

Hamza and Jowita managed to avoid the dreaded dance-off for the whole series, never landing in the bottom two once, while other hotly tipped couples like Tyler West and Dianne Buswell were sent packing. After making it through Sunday's semi-final, Hamza and Jowita are now readying three dances for this weekend's final, with them reprising their Couple's Choice, the judges choosing their salsa and bringing their show dance to the ballroom.

During a break in rehearsals, Hamza, who used to live in Newcastle and Jowita did an interview for It Takes Two and, it was prior to their TV appearance that Hamza revealed he'd come to the rescue of a bird that had become trapped in a window.

Recalling what happened on Instagram, he said: "So we are at It Takes Two and there was a little rescue this morning. There was a little robin that was stuck in a window and they managed to call me and we've got him and we're just about to release him, but [I'm] going to show you a cool trick beforehand."

The video, which Jowita filmed, then saw Hamza calmly tell the robin: "Hey buddy, it's alright, it's all good," before he explained: "So, one way of releasing birds. If you put the birds on their back like this and then gently hold out, they think you've still got them.," before releasing the bird.

At the time of writing, Hamza and Jowita were on odds of 8/15 to win Strictly, with Helen and Gorka in second on 9/5.
