Strictly's Gorka Marquez shuts down 'sore loser' jibes with Jowita Przystal reply

Gorka Marquez has gone some way to silencing accusations that he was a 'sore loser' at the end of Saturday's final, after viewers clocked his disappointed face as he and Helen Skelton were beaten by Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal.

Going into the series finale of the BBC show, Gorka and On The Farm presenter Helen were second favourites to win, with odds on them taking home the coveted Glitterball trophy shortening in the weeks and days leading up to the final. However, in the end it was Hamza and Jowita who became the latest Strictly champions, topping the public vote when it mattered the most, after finishing bottom of the leaderboard on judges' scores alone.

Helen and Gorka did all they could to try and snatch victory, with their third and final dance of the night, a reprise of their Couple's Choice to Mein Herr from Cabaret, receiving a perfect 40 out of 40, as Craig Revel-Horwood described it as 'winning' routine. And, as it was announced that it was Hamza and Jowita who'd won, rather than him and Helen, Gorka failed to hide his disappointment, looking visibly gutted in the immediate aftermath.

Some viewers, plenty of whom wanted Helen and Gorka to win, shared in his upset but others argued he should have been more gracious in defeat. with one critic taking to Twitter to blast: "Wow what a sore loser Gorka is BOOOOO" and another tweeting; "Gorka looked like a sore loser. Helen practically had to drag him over to congratulate Hamza and Jowita. Thank goodness Helen is a good sport."

Others defended Gorka, saying he had every right to be disappointed and Gorka publicly congratulated Jowita on her win. Reacting in the comments thread of her post about her and Hamza winning Strictly, Gorka wrote: "Well done @jowitaprzystal proud of you!!!!"

Directly responding to Gorka, one fan replied: "well you looked grumpy on TV once the winner was announced," with another telling him: " your turn next year Gorka... you and Helen were fantastic too."
