Strictly results show group performance axed by bosses in aftermath of Solihull tragedy

Strictly Come Dancing producers are reported to have axed a winter themed group performance from this week's results show, in the aftermath of the awful tragedy in Solihull.

At the end of Sunday's delayed semi final, hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman teased a results show routine from the pros and Strictly judge Craig Revel-Horwood, as well as a guest performance from Lewis Capaldi. But, while Brit winner Lewis was seen performing his new single Pointless, viewers were left scratching their heads as to what happened to the group number, as Monday's results programme started in a rather abrupt and much more toned down manner.

It has since been revealed that the absence of the opening performance was out of respect to the families of the three youngsters who lost their lives after they plunged through a frozen lake at Solihull's Babbs Mill Park on Sunday. The routine, which was actually recorded on Sunday night, along with the latest elimination, is said to have featured Craig in full drag and the dancers as snowflakes.

And, on the decision not to air it, a source told The Sun: "Strictly knew they could not air the dance in light of the awful news from Solihull. Naturally everyone on the show agreed and the decision was made not to air the performance.”

A BBC spokesperson added: "In light of tragic news events, we took the decision not to broadcast the group dance on this week’s results show."

There was a lot of discussion online as to why the promised routine didn't materialise, with one fan taking to Twitter to post: "Wait where's the group performance??" A second reacted: "I feel robbed, Not only did they make me wait till monday, the promise of a Craig led pro dance is now a pipe dream" and a third tweeted host Claudia to say: "you said Monday night there would be a special group number with @CraigRevHorwood. What happened? Can’t promise that and not deliver…"
