Strictly quarter final moved to Friday as Tess Daly confirms shakeup for World Cup

Tess Daly confirmed a big shake up for Strictly Come Dancing's quarter final, announcing to viewers at the end of this week's results, that the show has been moved next week due to the World Cup. And the news has not gone down well with fans, who have hit out at the BBC.

There was an emotional night once again in the Strictly ballroom this week as Ellie Taylor and Johannes Radebe exited the competition, after losing out in the dance-off to Fleur East and Vito Coppola, with Sax singer Fleur looking gutted at being condemned to the bottom two for a third time this series.

All four judges voted to keep Fleur and Vito in, sealing Ellie and Johannes' fate, before comedian Ellie paid an emotional tribute to her pro partner. And then, right before they did a farewell dance to Westlife's World of Our Own, Tess made the announcement about next week's live show being moved a day earlier, as the BBC prioritise the knock out stages of the World Cup, which England will hopefully be involved in.

Standing next to co-host Claudia Winkleman, Tess said: "We will be back at 8 o'clock next Friday, yes you heard right, Friday," before she introduced Ellie and Johannes' goodbye performance.

Fans weren't too happy by the news, with one tweeting: "Can't believe that #WorldcupQatar2022 has pushed the #Strictly quarter final to Friday night." A second posted: "So the #Strictly results show cut short tonight because of footy match containing no home country - next week it’s on Friday instead of Saturday because of footy - now if only there was a BBC sport channel or even a BBC2 this footy could have been shown on."

Among the many complaints on the subject on social media, a third viewer ranted: "Not impressed with you moving Strictly to Friday to accommodate football - Saturday night in the Autumn IS Strictly"
