Strictly judge Shirley Ballas praises Matt Goss amid 'feud' claims - but fans fume

Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas praised Matt Goss' latest routine, after weeks of feud claims.

The judge offered positive feedback which surprised some viewers but others were left annoyed, amid fans speculating the pair were not getting on.

Despite the more positive comments about his progress, viewers were not impressed with Shirley giving Matt the same score as Will Mellor, whose routine she had slated earlier on.

In fact, all of the judges marked Matt lower than Will, while Shirley marked them the same score.

Matt performed a Jive to the track All Shook Up by Paul McCartney, with his pro dance partner Nadiya Bychkova.

As his routine came to an end, it was time to face the judges and all of them agreed he had made progress, with some saying it was his best routine so far.

But when it came to the scores, fans believed he had been under marked - especially when they noted Shirley had given him the same mark as Will, who got far more critique.

Taking to Twitter over the scenes some were surprised to see Shirley appear to squash any claims of a falling out, with many agreeing with her remarks about his footwork.

One fan said: "Shirley’s actually being nice towards Matt? Blimey," while a second tweeted: "Matt's confidence is finally starting to show I enjoyed his performance. For the jive needs more bounce and agree with Shirley about his feet."

But others were disappointed at how low Matt's scoring was given how well it went and the comments he got.

Taking aim at Shirley, one viewer said: "Shirley score Will and Matt the same ??!!"

Another questioned: "In what world was Matt the same level as Will Shirley?" as a third said: "Shirley thinks Matt and Will are the same standard..."

Fans recently questioned if the judge and the contestant had fallen out, after Shirley took a swipe at the star after he survived the first dance off in week two of the competition.

Shirley had commented that she was "mortified" that Loose Women's Kaye Adams was sent home over Matt.

The following week, her critique of his next performance left viewers calling her out once more suggesting the judge "didn't' like" the Bros singer.

Meanwhile, there was concern that Matt's co-star Will wouldn't be able to perform on the night this week, after he suffered from sickness and wasn't able to train.

Will addressed the concern on Instagram ahead of the live show, saying: "First of all, I want to apologise for the way I sound, I have not been well at all this week.

"I went into training Monday and I just had to go home because I was feeling poorly and I've been laid up ever since."

The star continued: "I got a bug, virus, whatever you want to call it and I was aching all over, it's horrible. If you've got it out there, I feel your pain because a lot of it is going around this time of year, these flu variants.

"I've just done Strictly It Takes Two and a lot of people have been commenting saying 'You sound really poorly,' so I wanted to just say thanks for your comments but I probably sound worse than I am because I've coughed my throat out.

"But yeah, I went into training for the first time today just to do a couple of hours because I've got to perform on Saturday night live so let's just hope I can get through it."

Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday and Sundays on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
