Strictly fans rage over 'nasty' Matt Goss criticism and fume others were much worse

Strictly Come Dancing fans have been left fuming with the judges for scoring Matt Goss just 20 and out a possible 40 points when he had 'one of best dances' of the night.

Matt seemed proud of himself after performing a Quickstep to 'Sir Duke' by The Chris Walden Big Band with his professional dancing partner Nadia Bychkova.

But the judges didn't agree with viewers, leading to some confusion on Twitter. Fans were left even more disappointed by a comment made by one of the judges who is known for being quite supportive in his critiques.

Anton du Beke said that Matt had great timing and was stylish but that he needed to work on his frame as he looked like an "unmade bed".

Craig Revel Horwood, who has earned a reputation of being the sharpest-tongued judge, even stepped in to say that he felt the criticism aimed at Matt was too much.

After host Tess Daly asked, "What are you the new Craig?" to Anton, Craig jumped to Matt's defence.

"They're all being really nasty," he said. "That was punchy. It was a really great routine."

Although Craig insisted it was 'a really great routine', he still only scored him 5 points like the other judges.

Fans of the BBC show took to Twitter to express their distaste as Matt looked glumly on.

One viewer wrote: "Matt Goss' quickstep literally one of best dances so far tonight, and gets the lowest score so far from the judges. What the?!? Some very random scoring tonight."

Another suggested that they would've voted quite differently, penning: "How was Matt Goss the second lowest score? There were far worse. The wildlife presenter really shouldn’t have been up at the top"

An international fan said: "I've watched @mattgoss performance on Strictly from the other side of the world & if his frame was the only issue, then a score of 5 is rather harsh. The "unmade bed" comment is uncalled for. Rude."

One fan has claimed that the reasoning behind Anton's cruel comment is actually jealousy, taking to Twitter they said: "Anton is just JEALOUS of Matt, he wish he rolled out of bed looking like Matt but he doesn't."

Body language expert Judi James commented on Matt's 'deflated' appearance following the scoring.

She said: "Matt’s body language defines him as an analyser and a thinker. Twice he pointed his index fingers to his forehead to point out his brain and let us know he’s processing the experience intellectually rather than in a fun way. This serious approach might be making him put too much pressure on himself to be perfect, though.

"He sucked in his lips as he danced and we could see Nadia speaking to him when her face was visible. His posture suffered from this over-thinking as he appeared sweetly self-conscious. He also listened intensely to the judges’ rather negative comments and asked politely what was good about it and it was here that Craig seemed to lose his temper. His face contorted in anger and he stabbed a finger and a pen as he called the judges ‘nasty’. His voice became harder and louder with anger and his body bristled as he said ‘I liked it’.

"Matt looked deflated by the negative comments but keen to share emotionally, holding one arm out towards his fellow contestants on the balcony in a mimed half-hug as though needing some love and comfort from them all as he digested the criticism."
