Strictly fans convinced Shirley Ballas and Matt Goss are feuding as Anton defends star

Strictly Come Dancing fans are convinced Shirley Ballas 'hates' Matt Goss - as Anton du Beke spoke out in his defence.

Matt danced a Viennese Waltz to Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick and received a total of 21 out of 40. As he was given his scores by the four judges, Matt looked unimpressed as Craig Revel Horwood gave him a 3. It was a score of a 6 from Motsi Mabuse, a 5 from Shirley Ballas and a 7 from Anton du Beke as Matt took the scores on the chin.

Matt shared: "It's a beautiful dance and I kind of lost myself in dance for the first time in my career," as his professional partner Nadiya got emotional about how hard the Bros star had been working to improve his dances.

Giving her critique on the performance, Shirley said of Matt's dance: "Well every small improvement is key here.

"There was a few little flashes of some things I wanted, but I didn't agree with your Anton. I thought it was quite flat footed and I didn't get the correct footwork I needed to see. But your frame was definitely better from week one. What we have to get now from you is consistency. You have to have a good frame, you have to have the lady on the correct side."

As they gave their scores, an Shirley gave a 5, an annoyed Anton said the dancer had the "hump" as he gave his score of 7.

Fans took to Twitter to slam Shirley's critique, asking why the judge 'hates' the singer. One wrote: "I don’t think Shirley likes Matt, she would have voted him out last week & she really slagged him off this week #Strictly."

"It doesn’t matter what Matt does Shirley will mark him low, she was the only one who didn’t want to save him last week and Kaye was terrible #Strictly," another added as a third shared: "Shirley really doesn't like Matt does she! #Strictly."

Some fans have pointed out some tension in the past between Matt and Shirley. The Bros star found himself in the bottom two last week alongside Kaye Adams, who eventually left the show.

However, Shirley felt her fellow judges - who all opted to save Matt - had made the wrong decision.

She chose to save Kaye, but with her vote being the last, and the other three saving Matt, it wasn't enough to save the Loose Women star and her and Kai Widdrington were sent home.

Asked how she felt when Kaye went home, Shirley said: "I just felt on the evening both couples made mistakes but the quality of Kaye was by far superior on that evening, and I was absolutely mortified that she left to be quite honest. I love my fellow judges, and we’re all there to do a job, but that was one they didn’t quite get right.

"You know sometimes I’m just delighted when they can agree and it’s not my job to send somebody home. But Kaye was, and had, the most beautiful movement. She was fluid and I like fluidity. So there you go."

Matt will no doubt be hoping to bounce back this week, and he's got an emotional routine in store to win over the judges and public.

"It was an experience, yeah, it was new to me but at the same time, it was like if that's the worst it gets then," he said of being in the bottom two, where he danced his routine again against Loose Women star Kaye Adams.

However, his pro partner Nadiya insisted he was a "completely different person" since, adding: "He was like, 'I'm focused now, I'm here,' because he's got another chance to learn another dance and show what maybe someone didn't see before."

"It's very emotional, it's really beautiful and a beautiful song choice. I am truly loving the dance and I feel connected to it so I'm not thinking about the choreography," Matt added of this week's dance.

*Strictly Come Dancing returns on Sunday at 7.20pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
