Maisie Smith and Max George have ignored backlash to their 'pregnancy' joke as they continue to enjoy their break in Abu Dhabi. The couple, who first met on Strictly Come Dancing before love blossomed two years later, are enjoying precious time together after Maisie finished her first big gig since quitting EastEnders.
Last month, the actress, who is famed for playing Tiffany Butcher in the BBC soap, gave her final bows on stage in Strictly Ballroom: The Musical, as The Wanted star Max proudly supported his girlfriend in the audience. And after her last show in the reimagining of the Baz Luhrmann nineties film, the pair packed their bags and hit the airport as they ditched Manchester for the sun.
However, earlier this week, Maisie, 21, and Max, 34, got their fans' tongues wagging when they teased "exciting news" as they shared a snap from their holiday. It showed them posing together as Maisie beamed while wearing a figure-hugging pink dress and held her tummy with a love heart obscuring her middle in the picture.
"We've got some really exciting news," Maisie wrote on her Instagram Stories. In the picture Max gazed down with his hand over his mouth as if staring in amazement. She then shared the same picture for a big reveal as she removed the heart. "I just had the best five course meal of my life," she said.
Over on his Instagram Stories Max expanded on what had happened as she shared a video of sizzling steak. "We just ate 10 dinners," he said. And with the same picture of himself and his girlfriend he shouted in his caption: "LOOK AT THAT LOVELY BELLY."
But some were left unimpressed by the prank. @steffxrs tweeted: "@maisie_smith_ @MaxGeorge Pregnancy jokes are not, and never will be funny... Please do better." @hanjmason said: "@MaxGeorge @maisie_smith_ Don’t think this is something either of you should be joking about tbh."
Maisie and Max have since returned to social media with Maisie posting a clip of the "best night" as she continued her loved-up holiday with Max. Filming a series of tables located within private pods across a secluded beach at night time, Max was seen showing some dance moves as his girlfriend giggled from behind the camera.
"Best night with you [red love heart emoji]," she wrote alongside the clip. It came after Max shared a snap of the pair finding plenty of room after their big meal the night before as they sipped on huge milkshakes topped with cream and a variety of sweets and chocolate bars. "Never. Eating. Again," Max confessed.
