Matt Goss has revealed that being apart of Strictly Come Dancing has helped to improve his mental health.
The singer, 53, is set to show off his dance skills on the popular BBC One dance competition this weekend as he joins a whole host of celebrities including Helen Skelton, Kym Marsh, and Will Mellor for the brand-new 2022 series.
Before signing up to take part in Strictly, Matt found himself slipping into a 'dark place' amid his grief following the death of his mother. But since being apart of Strictly, the eighties pop icon is feeling much more like himself again.
Matt has explained that joining the dance show 'felt like a sign' to get him out of his workaholic routine. After losing his beloved mother Carol back in 2014, the Bros star 'steamed through' the grief by working too much instead.
Now that he's finally got a chance to sit back and take in all that has happened in recent years, Matt has finally been able to breathe, and he's grateful to Strictly Come Dancing for that.
After signing up to the show, Matt has returned to his hometown of London after spending 25 years in the US.
Matt made the decision to come home and take part in Strictly after noticing that his mental health was slipping.
"I've been asked to do the show a few times. But this year, in an unhealthy way I was becoming reclusive in my world of doing shows, concerts and touring," the singer explained. "I would then retreat too much, especially as it got into my eleventh year of my residency.
"I lost my mum and I steamed through my grief with my work. Because of that, I just missed London and said "I want to go home".
"And a week or two after that Strictly called and it just felt like a sign. I could either go back to that reclusive place or I could do it and get out of my own way. I felt myself going into a not very good place and it already feels better to have made the decision," Matt told Mail Online.
The Strictly star is hoping his stint on the show will help his bid to see Bros: The Movie become a reality.
The 80s heartthrob is desperate to turn his band’s rollercoaster life story in a blockbuster biopic and he reckons it could rival Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody – which charted the lives of Elton John and Queen icon Freddie Mercury.
The When Will I Be Famous? singer said: “There is a lot of interest in Bros and also my life.
“It’s something we’ve been talking about. It’s a great story and brilliant on the big screen.”
A friend of Goss revealed: “Matt and [brother] Luke have seen how films like Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman blew up.
“For the past couple of years they have been secretly working on a story plot and script, and getting advice from writers about a pitch to studios. One of Matt’s reasons for returning to the UK is to get buzz about him, his achievements and Bros.”
The friend added a movie was a 'lifelong dream' for Matt, 53, saying: “He is going to push as hard as he can to get the film into production. Strictly is providing the perfect platform to put him centre stage again.”
