Strictly Come Dancing's James Bye gives 'tell tale' sign he thought he was in bottom two

James Bye gave a 'tell tale' sign he thought he'd be in the bottom two on Strictly Come Dancing this week, with a result show reaction that did not go un-noticed by viewers at home.

EastEnders actor James, while tipped to rather well in the BBC ballroom this year alongside pro partner Amy Dowden, hasn't exactly set the leaderboard alight with his scores so far. And, after making an emotional career confession about the impact EastEnders had had one his life as he prepared to dance to the soap's theme tune on Saturday, he had another frustrating evening on Strictly as the judges weren't too kind with their comments.

A score of just 26 out of 40 put James and Amy second bottom of the week 5 standings, seven points ahead of Tony Adams, as bookies had him as joint favourite to leave, alongside Jayde Adams, the celebrity who ended up being eliminated this week at the end of the Strictly results show.

It was abundantly clear that James thought he would land in the dance-off as, when he and Amy were the first couple to be called safe by Strictly host Tess Daly, James as actually stunned to silence for a second, before punching his arms up in shock and delight as he shouted: "Come on! Come on!" and hugged Amy.

Amy looked emotional too as she and James then said 'thank you' to everyone who voted for them. As well as bookmakers reckoning James' days on Strictly were numbered this week, a number of viewers also thought he was on thin ice.

Reacting to him getting through, one took to Twitter to post: "Sorry why is James getting votes every week I’ve literally never known a more boring contestant," with another tweeting: "So Molly and someone else good, has to go home, because they put the two dancers; Tony and James through?"

There's plenty of support out there for James too though, with one fan writing: "A huge congratulations to @jimmybye and @dowden_amy on making it through to Halloween week on #Strictly after your emotional #EastEnders themed Foxtrot last night. You're continuing to improve every single week James and that is what the show is all about."
