Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli axed by BBC ahead of new series

Bruno Toniolo is reportedly facing the axe from Strictly Come Dancing after 16 years on the show.

Strictly's Italian stalwart had to be replaced by former professional dancer Anton Du Beke on the hit BBC dancing show last year, as Covid restrictions prevented him from travelling to the UK for filming.

And now, he will reportedly not be asked back.

The show's bosses are said to have been "really happy" with Anton's performance and have moved to renew his contract, a source told The Sun.

BBC sources told the newspaper: “Bruno has been an integral part of Strictly for more than a decade, and there is a huge amount of affection for him from those on the show.

“This decision will ruffle some feathers, not least with Craig, who has been a very, very vocal advocate for welcoming Bruno back.

"But the bosses’ attitude is, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’.”

Bruno could not return to film the show as he was already filming Dancing With The Stars in the US and could not do both shows because of Covid travel restrictions.

Anton stepped up to fill his shoes and said he was loving his time as a judge, but also admitted he missed dancing on the show.
