Strictly Come Dancing bosses make changes to show after Solihull lake tragedy

Strictly Come Dancing producers scrapped a winter-themed group performance from this week's results show. The decision was made after three boys, aged eight, 10 and 11, died when they fell into an icy lake in Solihull.

At the end of Sunday's semi-final of the hit BBC programme, hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman teased a results show routine from the professional dancers and Strictly judge Craig Revel-Horwood, as well as a guest performance from singer Lewis Capaldi. But while Brit winner Lewis was seen performing his new single Pointless, viewers were left wondering what had happened to the group number on Monday night's results show, reports Chronicle Live.

The routine, which was recorded on Sunday night along with the latest elimination, is said to have featured Craig in full drag and the dancers as snowflakes. It has now been revealed that the performance was axed out of respect to the families of the three youngsters who lost their lives at Babbs Mill Park on Sunday.

A source told The Sun: "Strictly knew they could not air the dance in light of the awful news from Solihull. Naturally everyone on the show agreed and the decision was made not to air the performance."

A BBC spokesperson added: "In light of tragic news events, we took the decision not to broadcast the group dance on this week's results show." Police said family members affected by the lake tragedy are 'absolutely devastated'.

A fourth boy, aged six, remains in a critical condition in hospital after being pulled from the water.
