Streets flooded in Nagpur following overnight rain

NAGPUR: Residents woke up to flooded streets in low-lying areas of Nagpur on Wednesday after heavy rainfall lashed the city overnight. The heavy downpour also led to overflowing of Ambazari lake. Even the gates at Gorewada lake were opened, leading to flooding in many areas along the Pili river.

The flooded roads disrupted the vehicular traffic.

Former corporator Manoj Sangole said at least 50 areas in north Nagpur were submerged due to incessant rain lashing the city since Tuesday night.

However, fire department received only one call of water entering houses, which was from Kalamna area.

On Wednesday, the Ambazari lake started overflowing early in the morning when its water level crossed the overflow point of 31m. Similarly, the Godbole Gates at Gorewada lake opened automatically early in the morning after the water level reached 316.65m, which led to Pili river flowing in spate.
