A new shin-kicking champion has been crowned at the Cotswold Olimpick Games, an eccentric British tradition where bruises and flying straw are integral to a sporting spectacle over 400 years old.
The annual event, held on Friday on Dover’s Hill near Chipping Campden, was first established in 1612 by local lawyer Robert Dover, who aimed to channel the community's competitive spirit. It was revived in 1951 after a period of dormancy.
