A rogue trader demanded money off a woman before threatening her with court.
Police from the Widnes branch of Cheshire Police issued a warning, on behalf of Halton Trading Standards, to people living in the area regarding the cold-calling workmen on Monday. Officers said the woman had a trader knocking on her door claiming she must pay £250.
The cash was allegedly for work to have some trees felled on her property. The scammer said if she did not pay the money that day she would be taken to court and the cost would be £900.
