Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp has come out as gay “after being scared in the closet for 18 years”.
The American actor, who plays closeted Will Byers in the hit Netflix sci-fi series, shared a video on TikTok with the announcement and it wasn’t long before fans flooded the comments with messages of support.
The video was of himself with the caption: “I guess I’m more similar to Will than I thought.” The latest season of Stranger Things - season four - alludes to the idea that Will has feelings for his best friend Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Noah has previously confirmed he thought his character was gay.

A caption over the video itself read: “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was 'we know'."
The video was inundated with messages of love. Chris Olsen, a famous gay tiktoker, said: “Welcome king.” Miss Kat added: “Not you coming out for you and Will”. Brynlee wrote: “Noah I’m so proud”. Youtuber and make-up artist James Charles penned: “Proud of you Noah.”
Noah’s character’s sexuality has been a talking point for Stranger Things fans throughout the show’s run. It has been hinted at, specifically when Mike told Will in the heat of an argument: “It’s not my fault you don’t like girls.”
When season four was initially released, Noah revealed to People how viewers would see Will in a different light this season.
He said: “I feel like people are used to seeing him fighting a monster or struggling with the supernatural side of Stranger Things. But this season, it’s just more about his personal struggles, and struggles with his identity, and I think it’s interesting for the audience to see that.”
