Stranger Things season 5: new behind the scenes video celebrates halfway mark of filming

A new two-minute video provides a glimpse behind the scenes of Stranger Things season five – the last chapter of the acclaimed Netflix show.

And it’s a feast for the eyes: the clip, which has been shared by the streamer, shows actors such as Millie Bobby Brown, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Maya Hawke, Sadie Sink, Wiona Ryder, Joe Keery and Finn Wolfhard on set – sitting on directors’ chairs, wandering around costume warehouses and prepping in the makeup room.

We get glimpses of the exciting backdrops of the upcoming show, with shots of the actors filming in high school corridors, a wood, and the world of The Upside Down. Stunt men are thrown through the sky onto padded mats and fall from trees in filming studios.

“So I started when I was 10,” says Brown, speaking to the camera as she’s driving to work. “I am now turning 20 years old. It feels very weird.”

Teasing a little of the upcoming plot Wolfhard adds, “I am excited to have scenes with the original four,” as we see a scene of characters Dustin, Mike, Lucas and Will making a team cheer gesture over a table in the woods.

The video truly is a treat for fans who have now been waiting over two years for more Stranger Things content – season four was released in July 2022 and season five will be released sometime next year. According to Netflix, the video shows the cast and crew “as they hit the halfway mark of filming”, which means there is still quite a bit of time left before everything gets wrapped up.Season five’s plot is being kept a secret, but we do know that the first episode of the new season is titled The Crawl, and opens with the sound of “cold wind, groaning trees and a child’s voice” – the first page of the script was shared by Netflix on X.

There are some exciting new faces joining this season: Nell Fisher (Bookworm), Jake Connelly (Between the Silence), and Alex Breaux (Hustlers) will all feature in the fifth chapter alongside seasoned members of the cast.

Stranger Things, the brainchild of brothers Matt and Ross Duffer, follows a group of high school students who live in a small town in Indiana in the Eighties. When one of the students disappears, strange things start happening, which drags the inhabitants of the town into a life-changing mystery.

It remains one of Netflix’s most popular TV series: Stranger Things season four is its second most-watched English-language show of all time, with 140 million views.
