Stranger Things could get a possible spin-off, the Netflix show's creators have teased.
Fans of the popular show on the streaming service were left devastated when co-creators Ross and Matt Duffer announced the show would be coming to an end after the fifth season, but now they have teased the possibility of another series one day.
Stranger Things - which stars the likes of Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard and Winona Ryder - will debut its fourth season next month, with the new series split into two exciting instalments.
But fans of the show might not have too much to worry about regarding its future, at least one day anyway.
Speaking to SFX magazine, Matt said: "We're going to feel like we still have a lot more gas left in the tank.
"But I think that it’s better to end there with us wanting more. That’s why ending at five felt like the right move. We haven’t told anyone our plans! Not even Netflix! We have some ideas."
Matt said he wouldn't rule out the potential of a spin-off if the story felt right.
"In terms of if we were to do any sort of a spin-off, or any continuation of Stranger Things, for us, the bar was always, ‘Is the idea exciting enough that we feel the pull of wanting to do it again?" he added.
"I want to feel the pull of, ‘God, I really want to do this. I feel really, really excited about this.’ So that’s why we’re being careful about what that is and whether we move forward with it or not."
It comes after the show's creators confirmed the fourth season will be split into two parts - Volume 1, which will premiere on May 27th and then there will be a second volume, which will begin airing five weeks later on July 1st.
"It’s been a little while," they wrote in an open letter which they shared with fans, "With nine scripts, over eight-hundred pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots and a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season, Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding one."
They also announced that the fifth season of the show will be the last.
The duo added: "Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things. At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four but - as you’ll see for yourselves - we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last."
