Security staff at a United States airport were shocked to find a cat inside a traveller’s luggage. Officials at New York’s John F Kennedy airport noticed ginger fur sticking out of a suitcase when an x-ray confirmed a furry feline was trapped inside.
The passenger who owned the case did not know the cat was inside and was required to return to the ticket desk after it was found. The furry stowaway – identified by the New York Post as being called Smells – was returned to its owner.
The cat’s owner told the Post that Smells must have crawled into the suitcase of a visiting friend. She did not know her tabby was missing until airport officials called her.

Lisa Farbstein, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration said: “The traveller said that the cat belonged to someone else in the household, implying that he was not aware that the cat was in the suitcase. On the bright side, the cat’s out of the bag.
“We call that a good catch.”

According to the Post, authorities were ready to put the traveller on the No Fly list for the alleged catnapping, but Smells’ owner reassured them it was just an accident. She said: “Our cats really like to check out bags and boxes and apparently one of them climbed into his suitcase.”
Upon getting the call from the airport, the owner’s fiancé rushed to rescue their beloved pet — only to find the tabby was completely undisturbed by the fiasco. She added: “I was worried he’d be freaked out but he wasn’t even meowing on the way back.
“I went to give him some extra treats and he acted like nothing had happened.”
