Story Behind Celia Walden's Viral 2022 Photo Explained—and Why It Struck a Nerve on Piers Morgan's Show

A resurfaced Instagram photo of Celia Walden triggered a dramatic walk-out on Piers Morgan Uncensored on Wednesday night, after influencer Harrison 'HSTikkyTokky' Sullivan flashed the 2022 image live on air during a heated debate about the so‑called manosphere.

Sullivan, 24, had been invited onto Morgan's TalkTV show to discuss his appearance in Louis Theroux's Netflix documentary Inside the Manosphere, which examines the rise of ultra‑masculine online personalities and their reach among young men. The conversation was already tense, with Morgan using the interview to challenge Sullivan's views and online persona long before Celia Walden's name was dragged into the exchange.

Celia Walden Photo Becomes Flashpoint On Air

The row escalated when Morgan pressed Sullivan about comments he had made regarding a hypothetical gay child. Sullivan said he would disown a son who came out as gay, which Morgan immediately branded homophobic. Sullivan did not retreat from the position and instead insisted that he would call that 'good parenting,' an answer clearly designed to shock as much as to signal his ideology.

From there, the mood in the studio darkened. Morgan loaded on the criticism, accusing Sullivan of being a toxic influence on young men. The usual gladiatorial tone of Piers Morgan Uncensored tipped into something more personal as both men began trading insults. Sullivan made suggestive remarks about Morgan's wife, Celia Walden, and tried to steer the conversation back to the documentary by saying: 'We can all have a push and a shove sir. Let's go back to talking about the documentary and less of the homophobia.'

Morgan pushed the temperature higher. At one point, he told Sullivan: 'I watched the documentary and I think you're a f****ng idiot. I think you're a sexist, misogynistic, homophobic twerp, who got exposed in a global way by Netflix, by Louis Theroux.' Sullivan appeared outwardly unruffled, playing to his online persona and audience, even as he was being filleted on prime‑time television.

The breaking point came not with a shouted insult, but with a swipe on a phone screen. As the argument rolled on, Sullivan pulled out his mobile and held it up to the camera. On it was an Instagram post from August 2022: Celia Walden lying beside a pool in a swimsuit, next to a sign that read, 'Wanted, Pool Boy, no experience needed.' The caption she had written at the time was equally wry: 'Applications open.'

The image itself is light‑hearted and obviously tongue‑in‑cheek, the sort of playful post that circulates endlessly on Instagram. Shown in the middle of a live row about homophobia, misogyny, and male role models, it took on a very different edge. Morgan's expression hardened as he clocked the photo.

'You know what. I'm not doing this,' he said, before standing up and walking off set, leaving his guest still in shot. Sullivan, unfazed, stayed seated and declared 'cooked', suggesting he believed he had successfully baited Morgan into cutting the interview short.

Nothing about the poolside photo has changed since 2022. What shifted on Wednesday was the frame around it.

How A 2022 Celia Walden Post Became 2026's Viral Obsession

The Instagram post by Celia Walden had barely registered beyond her regular followers when she shared it four years ago. Online, it was treated as a harmless, mildly risqué joke from a well‑known journalist married to one of Britain's most combative broadcasters. There were no scandals attached, no public outcry.

The news came after a wider surge of interest in the manosphere, fuelled by Netflix's Inside the Manosphere, where Sullivan features as one of several influencers courting controversy with their talk of dominance, discipline, and traditional gender roles.

Theroux's film attempts a more ambivalent reading of these figures, ending on the reflection: 'It's tempting to see the extreme male influencers as adversaries, spewing hate, and in some ways they are but they are also products of a culture, growing up online in a world that's changing at dizzying speed, with narrowing opportunities, when the old entitlements of manhood have been challenged.'

Wednesday's clash effectively turned Walden into collateral. Within hours of the broadcast, search data showed a sharp spike in people looking up 'Celia Walden,' her Instagram account, and her marriage to Morgan. Her name trended alongside Piers Morgan's across platforms, even though she was not present in the studio and has not, at the time of writing, publicly commented on the incident. Nothing is confirmed yet about any private fallout, so everything should be taken with a grain of salt.

Walden is far from a mere supporting character in Morgan's media story. A journalist, author, and critic, she has built her own career, writing non‑fiction thrillers and long features. She is a senior writer for the Daily Telegraph and has previously contributed to Glamour, Harper's Bazaar, and GQ. Morgan and Walden married in 2010 and have one child together.

Sullivan, meanwhile, leans into controversy as part of his brand. He is expecting his first child with his 18‑year‑old girlfriend, social media influencer Lillie May, a detail that has added another layer of scrutiny to his rhetoric about responsibility and masculinity.
