Stormzy writing 'empowering new album' as ex Maya Jama's popularity soars on Love Island

Stormzy is reportedly working on a brand new album less than two months after his last was unleashed - and as his ex-girlfriend Maya Jama reaches new heights as host of Love Island.

The 29-year-old rap sensation released his third album, This Is What I Mean, on 25 November last year - and the record soared to the top of the UK album charts.

The star - whose real name is Michael Omari - is said to have registered a track on a music database, signalling the imminent release of new music.

And his record label, which is part of the Warner Music Group company, is said to be excited of the prospect of another hit album from the star after his first three all tops the UK charts.

A music source told The Sun: “Stormzy isn’t resting on his laurels and has been writing and recording new songs already. Artistically he seems to be the strongest and most creative he has ever been.

“He registered a new track on a songwriting database earlier this month. The track is called Fire and it’s been pegged as a potential hit.

“Those around Stormzy think the song could spawn another album. It is really empowering and moving."

The source goes on to suggest there is a high possibility that the rapper will release new music this year and that his record label are encouraging him over the new tracks.

Meanwhile, Stormzy’s ex-girlfriend Maya, 28, has seen her popularity boost this month as she took over hosting duties on ITV2’s popular reality romance show, Love Island.

The host, who dated Stormzy from 2015 until 2019, took over hosting duties from 37-year-old Laura Whitmore who quit the show last year after two years.

Some viewers claimed they were watching Love Island only to see the host in action, with one tweeting: “I’m only watching for Maya Jama.”

And another commented: “Maya Jama. That’s it. Love Island done, thanks for coming.”

While a host of celebrities from Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock to modelling icon Abbey Clancy showered the star with praise.

The warm reception touched Maya herself.

Taking to social media after her debut at the beginning of the week, the star wrote: "overwhelmed from last night, thankyou so much for you’re kind words.”

Love Island narrator Iain Stirling praised Maya, saying on Good Morning Britain this week: “Maya is absolutely fantastic.”

He added: "Maya has done such a good job. Her slow-mo walks are something else. Great looks."

While reports have suggested ITV bosses are eagerly negotiating with Maya to extend her contract to continue hosting Love Island for many seasons to come.
