Following a quiet two years after Covid-19 postponed his 58-date global arena tour not once, but twice – Stormzy is back in full force.
Fresh off his UK tour, the 28-year-old MC made his Met Gala debut wearing a custom white Burberry wool cape and a crisp three-piece tuxedo with satin lapels designed by Riccardo Tisci.
“I am nervous, it’s crazy like, it’s a lot different but it’s amazing, I’m just going to embrace it,” he told Vogue on the event’s red carpet. “Usually I wear all black a lot of the time… so it’s nice to shine today.”
Ahead of the fundraiser, his talented stylist Melissa’s Wardrobe shared some behind-the-scenes photos to her Instagram stories. In one photo of the British-Ghanian rapper trying on the suit she wrote, “Never judging anyones met outfit again not an easy job” (SIC).
Not that you could tell. The chart-topper looked extremely dapper atop the Met steps, where he told reporters, “It’s a lot different when you see them on the telly, so I’m just going to get some selfies, have a little drink and chill out and take it all in.”
Despite the famous no selfie rule, Stormzy was seen hanging out inside with Rosalia and American rapper Jack Harlow in a story posted by the Spanish Motomami-singer. We’re also sure that he would have made a beeline for Gen Z popstar Billie Eilish following the two’s adorable interaction at the BRIT awards in 2020.
His Met Gala debut comes as Stormzy is set to release his hotly anticipated third album later this year. Born Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr, Stormzy – also referred to as Stiff Chocolate, Big Bike and The Problem – it is said that he has approached a whole host of high-profile names to appear in his comeback music video, including David Beckham, Gordon Ramsay and Louis Theroux.
