It is GQ Magazine’s biggest night of the year – and for their 2022 awards ceremony last night, honourees and friends of the publication headed to The Mandarin Oriental hotel for well-tailored evening.
Prize winners included rapper Stormzy and Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeny, and the pair rightly led the best dressed following the night’s somewhat intimidating ‘glamorous’ dress code.
Stormzy opted for a double breasted, navy suit and skinny black tie, while Sweeny had an all-out fashion moment in black, body dress with one sleeve and a cut out over the chest. It revealed a sliver, moulded breastplate underneath, and was a standout look from New York designer LaQuan Smith’s recent SS23 runway.
Matching Sweeny on the glamour scale was Salma Hayek, the Mexican-American actress, who stepped out in a festive red satin gown by Vivienne Westwood, which came corseted with a deep plunge.
A wave of young UK actors also dressed the part. Normal People’s Paul Mescal kept to his heart throb tendencies in a double breasted, pinstripe blazer and mint shirt by Valentino. His co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones was similarly smart in a metallic, chevron strappy dress with black tulle skirt from Gucci’s 2023 Resort collection.
Bridgerton lead Phoebe Dynevor wore a black two piece Victoria Beckham look from her most recent collection, which included a scallop hem crop top and fringed skirt, while Netflix series Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney, who is the next Rose in Doctor Who, went cool-girl in Miu Miu’s SS23 lace dress and embellished leather bomber.
Many of the boys kept it classic with traditional black suits and ties. These included Spiderman actor Andrew Garfield, who was dapper in black Ralph Lauren tailoring, Olympian Sir Mo Farah and and actor James McAvoy.
Lancey Foux, the rapper and boyfriend of Victoria Secret model Leomie Anderson, swerved the norm though and seemed over-excited for the new Avatar film coming next month by painting himself purple, and adding elf ears to his all black look.
