Stormers 40-3 Cardiff: Welsh side swept aside as hosts run in six tries in Cape Town

Cardiff completed their tour of South Africa with another defeat as they conceded six tries in the United Rugby Championship clash against the Stormers in Cape Town.

The Welsh side took an early lead through a Jarrod Evans penalty but that was as good as it got against opponents who posted three touchdowns in each half.

Like the Scarlets, Cardiff will be glad to return home and regroup. Depleted by Wales calls and injuries, they lost 37-20 against the Lions in the first match of their tour and were unable to make a game of it a week on.

Head coach Dai Young will just want to move on. James Botham battled hard in adversity at Newlands, showing up well on both sides of the ball, but Cardiff had little possession to work with and were unable to contain a Stormers team who had threats across their backline with Warrick Gelant a class act at full-back. Up front, No. 8 Evan Roos proved a powerful ball carrier.

Ruhan Nel, Leolin Zaz and Manie Libbok went over during the opening half, with more of the same to follow in the shape of Junior Pokomela, Roos and Rikus Pretorious crossing.
