As for the weather itself, several cities in the Northeast, including New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia, can expect wet conditions and low clouds. While it may come as a surprise, the rainfall in these areas is expected. Pittsburgh and Dubois will also experience rain. In contrast, the snow in Nebraska, Colorado, and Kansas is dwindling, losing both moisture and energy. However, there is still a possibility of receiving one to three inches of snow, particularly if it aligns over St. Louis at sunset, which could pose a problem for the area.
Eastern states, such as Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the Delmarva region, face a slight risk of flooding due to the storm's rainfall. Along the Mississippi River, there will be light snowfall as well. Moving forward, flight cancellations could increase throughout the afternoon if conditions worsen. Nevertheless, at this point in time, with only 140 cancellations reported, the situation appears relatively manageable.
Looking ahead to New Year's Night, the weather in New York City seems to be working in favor of the festivities, with clear skies and temperatures hovering around 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the West, as another storm system is poised to make its way across the region. On the upside, it's worth noting that most areas across North America are currently experiencing above-normal temperatures.
