FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The low-pressure system that is forecast to become Tropical Storm Alex is bringing strong winds, rain and flooding to northwestern portions of the Bahamas as it moves over the Atlantic Saturday evening.
Forecasters expect the disturbance to become a tropical or subtropical storm Saturday night or Sunday.
The storm’s winds strengthened slightly after it moved offshore just before 5 p.m. The northwestern Bahamas are under a tropical storm warning.
