Storm Oscar will change weather over Ireland amid big swing on charts

Storm Oscar is set to change Irish weather patterns for several days, however it's not all bad news, a weather expert has said.

The tail end of the storm, which gripped the Canary Islands off the Northwestern coast of Africa this Tuesday, bringing with it rain and high winds, is expected to affect Ireland this coming weekend, causing low pressure and "unsettled" conditions.

Weather expert Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather has warned of the risk of both showers and thunder this coming weekend.

He said: "While Storm Oscar won’t directly impact us it will bring about change in our weather. High pressure will slip away and more unsettled and humid air will arrive with a risk of showers and even some thunder."

In spite of the news tolling the end of Ireland's glorious two-week mini-heatwave, Mr O'Reilly signalled that there was one positive.

"However rainfall amounts for next 7 days look pretty low on latest charts," he stated on his popular Twitter page.

Met Éireann outlined that the weather will stay warm and largely dry until early Saturday morning, when some showery rain is expected to start moving into the south and move up across the country.

Later on Saturday a slightly more showery but quite humid airmass will be introduced.

The national forecaster stated that Saturday will bring a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers, however "some may be thundery in nature also" as temperatures remain in the 20Cs.

On the current outlook for next week, Met Éireann said: "Staying warm and quite humid into early next week with good sunny spells and the chance of some afternoon thundery showers at times. Maximum temperatures generally in the low to mid-twenties."
