British holidaymakers have been warned that Storm Oscar is set to batter the Canary Islands with heavy rain, winds of up to 55mph and possible flooding.
Holidaymakers hoping to enjoy a sunny trip to the islands should look to pack their umbrella and raincoat alongside the sunscreen and shorts.
Brits look set to be caught in the nasty storm that could bring with it massive waves and possible flooding, The Met Office has warned.
The islands could be blasted by 55mph winds, with the largest and most popular islands including Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and La Palma, all well in the storm’s crosshairs.
It is understood the western most islands will be particularly affected, whilst Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will be less affected but still see heavy rain.
"There are weather warnings in place, please see the website of the Spanish Meteorological Agency for details. You should check with your tour operator or accommodation provider before you travel and follow the instructions of local authorities."
Spanish Agencia Estatal de Metereología (AEMET), the Spanish meteorological service, named the storm, which is set to arrive this week and bring sustained rain up until Wednesday.
The Met Office UK, who have weather stations based in the Canary Islands said: "Heavy rain and brisk winds are forecast across the Canary Islands this week, leading to the risk of large waves and localised flooding."
Any travellers to the island should be cautious of the storms, not just because it could ruin their sunny holiday, but also because of the possible danger it could pose to them.
Alongside strong waves along the coast, some localised flooding is possible with the worst expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.
This comes after the UK has suffered a string of tragic water-related deaths that has seen children drown as the weather turns nice.
AEMET has already issued orange weather warnings for some of the islands for Tuesday, June 6, where the winds could reach 55mph.
Similarly, yellow rain warnings are in place for some islands that could see as much as 60mm in just 12 hours.
Other yellow warnings for wind and rain cover all of El Hierro and La Gomera with rainfall of 15mm an hour.
Meanwhile, large swathes of the UK are set to enjoy a week of blue skies and sun this week.
Whilst temperatures will remain in the low 20s at the beginning of the week, by the weekend Brits staying at home could see them touching as high as 28C.
