Storm Eunice weather warnings: Met Eireann alerts still in place for snow, wind, rain and flooding

Storm Eunice has well and truly arrived on Irish shores after 130km winds hit overnight.

The south has seen the worst of the conditions so far, with most of the country experiencing a calmer than expected morning.

But Met Eireann still has a number of warnings in place for the rest of the day, with one extending into Saturday.

It is expected that the storm will continue to bring harsh conditions throughout Friday, with gale-force winds, heavy rain, snow, ice and flooding all forecast.

Here is the full list of warnings still in place for Storm Eunice

  • A RED wind warning has been issued for Waterford and expires at 11am.
  • An ORANGE wind warning for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wexford, Wicklow, Galway and all of Munster. Expires at 11am.
  • A YELLOW wind and rain warning covers the entire country on Friday until 6pm
  • A YELLOW snow and ice warning is in place from 5am on Friday until 10am on Saturday

Despite all warnings expiring by Saturday morning, it still looks set to be a miserable weekend.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Storm Eunice brings stormy conditions across the country this morning with very strong northwesterly winds and severe and damaging gusts. There will be further falls of rain, sleet and snow with some thunder in places too. Disruption to travel can be expected.

"Westerly winds will continue fresh to strong through the afternoon, and it will be cold with sunny spells and blustery wintry showers. Afternoon temperatures of 2C to 6C.

"Clear spells and wintry showers at first tonight with moderate to occasionally fresh westerly winds. Later in the night, rain will spread eastwards across the country, falling as sleet or snow in some areas. Lowest temperatures of -2C to 2C in freshening southerly winds.

"A wet start on Saturday with falls of rain, sleet and snow in the morning, clearing to showers as milder air extends from the west by afternoon. Further outbreaks of rain will move in from the Atlantic through the evening. Afternoon temperatures will recover to highs of 5C to 10C north to south. Staying quite breezy in fresh and gusty westerly winds.

"Saturday Night: Cloudy with outbreaks of rain, which will turn persistent across much of Connacht and Ulster overnight bringing a risk of spot flooding. Windy too in fresh to strong and gusty southwest winds. Temperatures increasing overnight to around 8C to 11C.

"A wet and blustery morning on Sunday with widespread rain and localised flooding possible. The rain will clear to sunny spells and showers by the afternoon, some of hail or sleet. Early afternoon temperatures of 7C to 12C, but much cooler air will extend from the northwest later and some showers will turn to sleet over higher ground once again in fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds."
