Storm Eunice: People of Nottinghamshire told to 'stay indoors' as county braced for high winds

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service have advised people across the county to stay indoors as Storm Eunice is expected to bring winds of up to 70mph.

The Met Office has issued a rare red weather warning for parts of the UK on Friday, February 18, and said there could be “flying debris resulting in danger to life”.

The expected storm has prompted East Midlands Railway to urge its customers not to travel at all, with National Highways echoing that message to motorists.

The fire service said they were advising people to stay indoors, if possible, and limit travel.

"If you do have to travel, please take extra care on the roads," they said.

"When driving, make sure you and your vehicle are properly prepared, allow extra time for your journey and drive according to the road and weather conditions."

People should also secure garden furniture, trampolines and similar items which can present a hazard in high winds, the service added.

The fire service said that people should securely fasten doors and windows and park vehicles in a garage or keep them clear of buildings, trees, walls and fences.

"We are here for you in an emergency," they said.

Please call us if an incident is endangering life or someone needs rescuing."

The latest storm follows Storm Dudley which resulted in a number of fallen trees in Wollaton, Ruddington and Mansfield.

Thousands of homes were left without power after Storm Dudley swept through parts of the UK.
