Storm Eunice orange weather warning issued for Dublin with two counties seeing red

Met Eireann has upgraded Dublin's Storm Eunice weather warning to orange, with two counties seeing red.

Dangerous, cyclonic winds will reach speeds of 80km/h with coastal flooding set to cause chaos in some towns.

Dubliners are being urged to prepare themselves for a weather event that will have a serious impact on all people in the area.

The urgent warning has also been issued for Clare, Galway, Waterford, Wexford, Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow, Wicklow, Laois, and Offaly.

The orange level warning is the second highest, with forecasters upgrading Cork and Kerry to a rare status red.

Met Eireann said: "Storm Eunice will track quickly over Ireland tonight and Friday morning bringing severe and damaging winds for a time. Southwest or cyclonic winds becoming northwest will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80 km/h with gusts up to 130 km/h. Some coastal flooding, especially at high tide."

Top forecaster Alan O'Reilly warned people that Storm Eunice is not like an ordinary storm.

He said: "Red warnings issued for Cork and Kerry now and Orange warnings extended. Please take note as #StormEunice is not your ordinary storm!"

A Status Red marine warning has also been issued for Friday.

It is in place from Howth Head to Roche's Point to Erris Head and on the Irish Sea south of Anglesey.

"Cyclonic variable winds, veering northwesterly will reach storm force 10 or violent storm-force 11 at times overnight and on Friday morning on coasts from Howth Head to Roches Pt to Erris Head and on the south Irish Sea."

A status red warning is in place for Cork and Kerry.

"Storm Eunice will track quickly over Ireland tonight and Friday morning bringing severe and damaging winds. Southwest winds veering northwest will reach mean speeds in excess of 80 km/h with gusts in excess of 130 km/h. Some coastal flooding, especially at high tide," Met Eireann reports.

It's valid from 3am until 8am on Friday, February 18.
