Storm Eunice: Boat sinks as strong winds hammer Swansea Marina

Boats in Swansea Marina have been battered by strong winds during Storm Eunice.

Video footage shared online showcases boats rocking back and forth with one small vessel also appearing to sink into the water.

HM Coastguard Mumbles has advised people to "stay well back from the sea" and "not risk your life, or the lives of our rescue services". It comes as a large part of Wales is covered by a rare red weather warning with winds of more than 80mph hammering large parts of the country. You can follow live updates here.

It comes as parts of Wales have been placed under a "rare" red alert as Storm Eunice hits the country. The serious alert is in place between 7am and 12pm on Friday, February 18, with further alerts in place after that.

The Met Office says caution needs to be taken within areas affected by the red warning with the following all possible:

  • Flying debris resulting in danger to life
  • Damage to buildings and homes, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down
  • Uprooted trees are likely
  • Roads, bridges and railway lines closed, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights
  • Power cuts affecting other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and homes, including flooding of some coastal properties

Most schools in Wales are shut today while many areas are at risk of flooding.

Considerable seawater has been over spilled into the Marina (Sel Meseci)

Sel Meseci of the nearby The Anchor restaurant acknowledged the weather had become "increasingly worse" over the morning as he opened the venue.

Filming the scenes unfold outside, he said he "struggled to hold his phone" as strong winds battered the Marina.

Other video footage filmed by Nicky Davies showcased boats and vessels being battered by the winds in the area with concerns surrounding one potentially fully submerging into the water.
