A 'danger to life' weather warning has been issued for Falkirk as Storm Dudley is expected to bring severe gales and head rain to the area this week.
The Amber 'be prepared' alter comes into force at 6pm on Wednesday February 16, and lasts until 9am on Thursday.
Gusts of up to 80mph are possible in some places.
Forecasters say that travel disruption is highly likely adding that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage and there could be injuries and danger to life from debris flying about in the wind.
A Met Office spokesperson said: "Very strong westerly winds are expected to develop across western Scotland and northern Northern Ireland late Wednesday and extend eastward across southern Scotland and northern England during the evening.
"There is still some uncertainty in the timing and location of the strongest winds but there is the potential for inland wind gusts of 70-80 mph in places.
"Gusts of 80-90 mph are possible around exposed coasts and hills."
